Top 5 Features of Microsoft Teams

What is Microsoft Teams?

Microsoft Teams (Teams) is a fully integrated and powerful collaboration tool that is now included as part of Office 365 subscription. Teams is used for video conferencing, workplace chat, file storage, application integration, and telephony. Bond Consulting Services (BCS) recently transitioned from the Skype for Business VoIP phone system to the new phone system within Teams. Teams has enabled BCS team members to continue providing excellent support for our customers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Top 5 Features of Teams

  1. Teams has its own Mobile App. Teams has its own mobile app as well as a separate desktop app, for quick and easy accessibility.
  2. Teams includes a built-in Bot Directory. Bots are AI applications that can complete tasks through chat-based communication. Teams users can communicate with bots and add them to a team to quickly and efficiently complete tasks.
  3. Teams incorporates Channels. Channels are extremely important to increase business efficiency as they improve transparency and communication and decrease silos within a team.
  4. Teams allows for Guest Access. An Office 365 subscription is not required to gain access to Microsoft Teams. If you have a consumer or business email account, you can join chats, view files and participate in meetings.
  5. Teams uses Analytics and BI to improve user experience. Teams uses Analytics and BI to create usage reports that explain how employees are interacting with the platform. These Teams reports include information on adoption rates, most used features and user feedback.

Microsoft Inspire 2020 Conference Updates Pt. 2

Microsoft’s annual partner conference called Microsoft Inspire concluded on January 23, 2020. Bond Consulting Services (BCS) team members attended all the conference’s live virtual sessions which were both engaging and enlightening. The BCS team very much enjoyed meeting new partners from around the world and learning about Microsoft’s newest updates.

Microsoft Inspire was filled with feature updates and announcements from leaders in the business and technology fields. Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella made multiple appearances along with Gavriella Schuster, Microsoft’s Worldwide Channel Chief, and Judson Althoff, Microsoft’s Executive Vice President for Worldwide Commercial Business. The following updates/takeaways were revealed during the Microsoft Inspire 2020 Conference virtual sessions and keynote addresses.

10 Most Important Updates from the Microsoft Inspire 2020 Conference:

  1. Emphasis on Microsoft Teams. We have already mentioned some cool, important updates and feature integrations in our Microsoft Inspire 2020 Conference Updates Part 1 Blog. However, Teams was a significant focus of the conference, and it is an important component of Microsoft 365. Satya Nadella even commented that Microsoft Teams is what enables a customer to experience the full value of Microsoft 365. Another cool new feature of Teams that was announced at Inspire is the ‘Together Mode’ which uses AI to create a shared background for all conference participants. ‘Together Mode’ boosts office morale and makes conversations much more natural.
  2. Push for Windows Virtual Desktop. Windows Virtual Desktop is Microsoft’s Azure-based desktop solution. Gavriella Schuster encouraged partners throughout the conference to pursue the solution. Windows Virtual Desktop is increasing in popularity as more individuals are switching from in-person to remote work.
  3. Multiple Azure Announcements. During the Inspire conference, multiple updates for the Azure cloud platform were announced. These updates include security enhancements such as multifactor authentication for Azure Lighthouse, the next generation of Azure Stack HCI, third-party connectors for Azure Sentinel, and new Azure Migrate features.
  4. Speeding Up the Shift to the Cloud. Judson Althoff encouraged partners to accelerate the shift from data centers to the cloud. Althoff stated that Microsoft’s cloud capabilities across Microsoft 365, Dynamics 365 and Azure “will help customers persevere in these difficult times”.
  5. Growth Despite COVID-19. In the midst of Microsoft Inspire, Microsoft released its financial results for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2020. Microsoft’s revenue grew 13%, indicating that the company experienced growth despite the global pandemic. These results reveal Microsoft’s strength in overcoming unpredictable business challenges and maintaining financial stability.
  6. New and Improved Partner Focus. Satya Nadella’s keynote address focused on increasing inclusion efforts and engagement for partners toward the overall vision of Microsoft. In addition, Nadella and Schuster both described Microsoft as a partner-led company, indicating the importance of partners for Microsoft’s strategy and success. In the spirit of championing its partners, Microsoft has agreed to minimize changes for partners and provide opportunities by partner type.
  7. Security and Compliance Measures. During Inspire, Satya Nadella announced Microsoft 365 Endpoint Data Loss Prevention. This new feature will help companies identify and protect sensitive information across every stage. Microsoft is dedicated to providing critical security services and compliance requirements for its customers.
  8. Partner Revenue Opportunities. In one of his Inspire speeches, Satya Nadella remarked that the customers are experiencing the full value of the cloud in that they are using it to generate even more revenue, which increases local economic success. Nadella stated that, “for every dollar our cloud generates in revenue in the local region, our local partner ecosystem generates as much as nine additional dollars”. Therefore, the cloud is providing new and exciting revenue opportunities for partners and customers.
  9. Partner Transition to Managed Services. Microsoft Executives at the Microsoft Inspire Conference encouraged partners to transition to managed services with monthly terms. Microsoft’s leaders indicated that the transition to managed services is beneficial for your customers and it prepares your business for long-term success.
  10. Carbon Neutral by 2030. At the Microsoft Inspire 2020 Conference, Satya Nadella announced Microsoft’s goal to be carbon negative by 2030. Carbon negative means that a company is removing more carbon from the atmosphere as it emits. Nadella also announced that by 2050, Microsoft plans to remove all the carbon the company has emitted since its founding in 1975. These prestigious goals are transforming Microsoft into a sustainable, eco-friendly organization.

Dynamic Ship Add-on for Business Central

Shipping apps for Dynamics 365 Business Central are becoming more and more popular, and users are looking for an app that offers rate shopping across multiple carriers. But you may be asking what exactly is “rate shopping” with regard to shipping and Business Central, and why should you care about it?

Why You Should Care About Rate Shopping

Imagine a scenario in which you have access to technology that verifies the absolute lowest price you would need to pay for a service. This is the basis of “rate shopping” with regard to carriers.

Rate shopping multiple carriers at a shipment level represents a powerful tool to ensure least-cost alternatives and benefit from the value regional carriers could offer. You will be in a position to gain optimum value with every shipment – while enjoying the ability to leverage multiple carriers and simplifying and streamlining your transportation efforts – by automating this process with shipping software, such as Insight Works’ Dynamic Ship.

Insight Works Fun Fact: Through the magic of rate shopping, average savings should exceed five-percent of total annual carrier spend; as an example, if your total carrier spend is $300,000 per year and you save just five-percent, that equates to a savings of $15,000 per year.

The bottom line is: The power to automate rate shopping between your chosen carriers and service levels is a tool that every entity operating in the shipping sector should keep in their figurative back pocket, so if you want to achieve a competitive advantage in this world, choosing a vendor that provides sophisticated rate shopping software is a wise move.

That’s Where Insight Works Comes In

Insight Works is a leader in Operational Productivity Improvement with the mission to help Manufacturing, Warehousing, and Distribution Companies get the most out of Dynamics 365 Business Central.

Bond Consulting Services (BCS) has worked closely with Insight Works over the last several years to help make Business Central a success. Insight Works developed an app called Dynamic Ship that offers multi-carrier rate shopping along with several additional features.

The Dynamic Ship add-on for Business Central integrates a shipping component with Business Central that is most helpful – for a number of reasons. Dynamic Ship, for one, supports real-time multi-carrier rate shopping for over 100 carriers, and the rates provided by the add-on represent your contracted rates with your carriers. In other words, if you have negotiated rates with, say, DHL, you will see those rates in Business Central when using Dynamic Ship.

What’s the significance of real-time rate shopping? Real-time rates ensure proper carrier service selection and accurate customer billing, with Dynamic Ship stepping in to offer integration with all major domestic and international carriers, as aforementioned, including UPS, DHL, FedEx, USPS, Canada Post, Purolator and over 100 more. Further, Dynamic Ship provides carrier service information and rates based on package weight, dimensions and destination through direct connectivity to the carrier via the internet, so you’re kept up-to-date regarding the most current information prior to shipments.

BCS strongly recommends the Dynamic Ship solution from Insight Works as it provides an optimal balance between efficiency and cost-management through its tightly integrated add-on for Business Central.

Orange sunset over hill with paved a yellow brick road

DISCLAIMER: For the record, Bond Consulting Services remains dedicated to serving each and every one of our Microsoft Dynamics GP clients who choose to stay on GP. We’re more than happy to implement Dynamics GP for new clients as well. We should also note that Microsoft is committed to releasing annual enhancements to GP at least through 2024. In a word (or a few words), GP is alive, well, and up to date.

What You Should Know: The Lay of the Land

Notwithstanding the disclaimer above, we cannot ignore the facts.

Since its launch in April 2018, Business Central has seen increasing adoption by organizations looking to transform their businesses digitally. We must admit that Microsoft Dynamics GP is no longer Microsoft’s flagship ERP solution. That honor now belongs to Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Dynamics 365 Business Central. So, while GP is updated annually, Microsoft is no longer actively promoting GP. Those advertising and promotional dollars are now earmarked almost exclusively for Dynamics 365 and Dynamics 365 Business Central.

Migrating from Microsoft Dynamics GP to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central

As part of Microsoft’s campaign to entice other Dynamics users – not just GP, but NAV and SL, too – improvements have been made in migration tools. This is yet another indication that reflects the prioritization of bringing on-premises Dynamics GP, Dynamics SL, and Dynamics NAV customers to Business Central online.

  • Customer migration tools (aka the yellow brick road): To simplify the journey for existing Dynamics customers to Business Central online, Microsoft has added support for migration from a broader set of Dynamics GP and Dynamics NAV versions, making improvements for specifying which customers and vendors to migrate from Dynamics GP, and enhancing the migration of Dynamics GP Chart of Account setups.

Together, these enhancements are designed to drive further customer adoption by empowering the migration of Dynamics GP, Dynamics NAV, and Dynamics SL customers, activating the partners who are bringing their vertical solutions to Business Central online and further accelerating the growth of net new customers to Dynamics 365.

The following migration tools are enhanced and available. Click for details:

Enhanced Dynamics GP Chart of Accounts migration

Migrate all or only active customer master records from Dynamics GP

Migrate all or only active vendor master records from Dynamics GP

Enhanced Dynamics GP inventory data migration

In addition, there is a push to migrate users currently running Business Central on-premises to Business Central online, with this tool:
Migrate data from Business Central 14.x on-premises to Business Central 15.x online

Are you ready to follow the yellow brick road to Business Central?
