The BCS Team is Heading to Microsoft Inspire 2017

Washington DC July 9-13th

Microsoft Inspire is a place for partners, Microsoft employees, and IT experts to build relationships that drive mutual success. Attending Inspire (formerly known as WPC) can be overwhelming, especially if you are a first-time attendee. With past attendance exceeding 16,000 people from around the globe, Inspire provides a week full of networking, learning and collaboration. Connections made at Inspire foster transformation and inspiration that leads to real action.

“Inspire gives us a chance to build on our existing expertise surrounding the products and solutions we bring to our clients. By engaging with partners from all over the world, BCS is able to provide solutions to our clients outside of the traditional Dynamics space. We are also able to deliver Dynamics solutions to our partner’s customers to help them build value too.” David Gersten, VP of Sales and Marketing

This year two of our own are hosting Hot Topic Table discussions in the Community Hub. David Gersten will be discussing The Value of Being a Tech Policy Thought Leader and Steve Jones will be discussing 5 Keys to a Customer Generating Website.

Microsoft Inspire: Tips and Tricks

I realize that going to Microsoft Inspire (formerly known as WPC) can be overwhelming for many people.  From my experience of getting information overload from many people I took the liberty and consolidated a lot of other communications and put this blog together.  Please share it with people also attending this years Inspire conference in Washington, DC, July 9th to July 13th I look forward to seeing you there!

General Inspire Information:

Overview:

  • First Time Attendees (FTA) will have a FTA purple lanyard – mentors will always help (identified by green lanyards) and you should never hesitate to ask for help or guidance from a mentor.
  • Attire – wear comfortable clothing especially on your feet, given the volume of walking that is required around the conference, is important. Casual business dress is the order of the day, not shorts and trainers, but neither is a suit and tie required. Often attendees are going straight from the conference in the day to evening activities so dressing appropriately for that will save a lot of time.
  • Eating and drinking – this is a marathon not a sprint, so water, water, water – having a good breakfast, and not going overboard on alcohol in the evenings will help to stay the course. Until you have been to Microsoft Inspire you cannot foresee how much energy is required.
  • Always having business cards and a small pen or pencil in your pocket. You never know who you will meet, where – and always being able to pass out a card, and receive one will mean you never miss an opportunity. Writing on the back of the business cards something that will remind you, who the person you met was, where you met etc... will make a difference when you get back to the office and have 100 business cards to follow-up on and no idea who is who.
  • The conference is flooded with opportunity for your partner business. Executives from Enterprise partners and Microsoft are everywhere, Directors, CEO’s and Senior Managers are often ‘in disguise’ in a social environment, so always be aware of what you are saying to whom and who may be listening to your conversation. Much better to always impress than put people off talking to you.
  • A good tip for partners keen to connect with other partners is to attend the events and activities that are aligned to your target audience. You can then see and hear first-hand what those partners are interested in, how they respond to key messages and the Microsoft strategy that aligns to their business. Microsoft Inspire is a great way to understand more about your target partner audience and their strategic goals, which helps you with your pitch as to why they should work with you.
  • Have fun! People buy from people and love to connect with people that are not only professional and capable but great to work with – relationships built at Microsoft Inspire are often very unique and stand the test of time, there’s no better place to build and secure your current and future network, so go for it!

First Time Attendee Activities:   Don’t forget - there are several great opportunities and events for First Time Attendees that can be leveraged as meeting locations – including:

  • An orientation session titled: Planning for Microsoft Inspire 2017, on Sunday, July 9, 2017 from 2:30 PM to 5:00 PM. Be sure to look for more details in the session catalog.

Tips from Justin Slagle - PCDM – US SMB&D Covering SW Territory - SoCal, Las Vegas & Hawaii

Make  sure that you block at least 2 hours (if not more) to go through the expo hall.  There are so many valuable partnerships waiting to be formed there.  I highly recommend visiting:

  • Plantronics and Jabra and any other Skype Headset Provider -  You’ll want to have a partnership in place as Skype goes into full swing next fiscal year.
  • StratoGator – This is a partner out of San Diego that has made some incredible dashboards for CSP.  Make sure you visit especially if you are a DIRECT CSP partner!
  • IAMCP – Build out a national partnership program with partners from around the US!
  • Voices for Innovation – Make your voice matter.  VFI is a place where you can help lawmakers understand what is important to you!
  • BitTitan and SkyKick – Find out what kind of programs they will have to help you in FY18!
  • Distribution – Make sure to visit the Distributors so you can talk to them about their FY18 go to market strategy!
  • Go find a golden nugget. There are so many great ISVs out there, but we just don't know all of them, yet!

JetReports Guest Blog | Top 3 Signs It's Time for Business Intelligence

Reports are a necessary part of any organization. Without the data from reports, you would have no specific information about how your business is performing financially, operationally, or otherwise.

Business intelligence (BI) tends to be more of an idea or process. Ultimately, BI is the practice of using organized, governed data to get the right information, to the right people, at the right time so you can see trends, predict future outcomes, capitalize on realized opportunities, and drive business forward.

Last year I wrote an article addressing the differences between reporting and BI. Within that editorial, I brought the topic to life in a pre-recorded webinar.  Today we’re going a step further to uncover the top three signs that it’s time for company to move from reporting exclusively, to adding BI.

Sign #1- Your team is arriving at different numbers, from different departments, for the same report.

How can this happen? Well, the main reason would be various people pulling information from different places.  With the unlimited areas that data lives within an ERP, how do you know you’re looking at the right numbers?

A BI solution minimizes the guesswork, which allows you to go from “I think” to “I know.” It produces accurate reports and dashboards every time by extracting data from a governed data warehouse that has pre-calculated and combined all your sources of information – meaning that everyone is working from one version of the truth. BI not only performs fast and clear analysis of any amount of data, it resolves tasks such as creating structural plans, distributing and collecting information from different business units or teams, and consolidations, seamlessly. You never compromise report integrity again.

Sign #2- You’re upgrading or migrating to a new ERP system.

Upgrading to a newer version of Microsoft Dynamics? Most companies have over 100 reports that need to be upgraded, too. In addition, you likely have hundreds of thousands of transactional records that need to be migrated for historical reporting purposes. Combined, this will likely make up the highest costs in your upgrade, and take the most time. But it’s not, if you have BI. You eliminate both.

With a data warehouse built for Microsoft Dynamics, like the one delivered with Jet Enterprise, you won’t have to pay to update the 100+ reports in the new system, it’s done automatically. As a bonus, you end up nearly tripling the benefit of your ERP upgrade with the investment of a BI solution because you also use it for transactional data migration. The data warehouse will store all your historical transactions, cutting upgrade costs as much as 80% in some cases. This allows you to increase the productivity of your Dynamics investment by gaining fast, accurate analysis for everyone who needs it. Better yet, the return continues as you move through subsequent upgrades down the road.

Sign #3- You need to consolidate.

For many companies, two ERP systems are a by-product of past mergers or acquisitions. They can also be the result of functional strengths – financial business management versus production tracking, for instance. Managing multiple ERP systems can be challenging, especially as your business grows. By implementing a BI solution, business users are able to pull the data they need from both systems, but out of a single repository. You can quickly extract data from all company sources, and specify a set of rules to transform the data, and do so in a simple drag-and-drop interface. Any solid BI solution with a clean, intuitive user interface, such as Jet Enterprise, will allow business users to build their own reports, as well as have the flexibility to add or tweak any BI dashboard, from virtually unlimited databases, seamlessly. In other words, you can eliminate the question on where you get what data, and how.

By implementing BI, all the information is centralized and can be viewed in a dashboard or turned into a report, saving you enormous amounts of time while eliminating inefficiencies. You don’t need to be a large company to benefit from BI either. Start your BI journey now and find out how you can take your business the next level, today!

Bringing LinkedIn Sales Navigator and Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Sales Together

So what exactly is social selling? Social selling is the process of developing relationships through social networks such as LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook, as part of the sales process. With a heavy reliance on social channels for information, consumers have shifted the traditional sales process away from conventional sales approaches like cold calling and door to door sales. Microsoft has made it easier for companies to utilize social channels for social selling by bringing LinkedIn Sales Navigator and Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Sales together.

Today’s buyers are self-educated and well-informed. They have access to a wealth of information and have more control of the buying process than they did in the past. In a Forrester survey, 74% of business buyers say they conduct more than half of their research online before making a purchase decision. Buying decisions are also being made by teams of people, so you no longer have a single decision maker to persuade. You need to engage with a group of stakeholders that have different needs. This adds complexity and requires strong relationship management.

The latest LinkedIn State of Sales in 2016 report provides insight into the world of social selling and highlights which tools, strategies, and tactics sales teams are employing to boost their sales efforts.

  • Sales professionals spend most of their time working with social selling and CRM tools, as they believe they deliver the highest value
  • More than 70 percent of sales professionals use social selling and see relationship building tools as having the highest impact on revenue
  • 90 percent of top sales professionals use social selling tools, compared with 71 percent of overall sales professionals

These trends show that having the right tools is critical to the success of sales professionals, and has resulted in many organizations equipping their sales professionals with the new tools they need to do their job.

The integration of LinkedIn Sales Navigator and Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Sales offers social selling experience for sales professionals that can help them overcome these new sales challenges. You can install the LinkedIn solution for Microsoft Dynamics today and benefit from the following social selling capabilities.

Stay on top of customers you care about

You can view LinkedIn Account Profiles from Sales Navigator right within Dynamics 365 for Sales to help you learn about your customer and their industry. It will also help you stay up to date on news, recent activities, and job changes.

Discover new leads

The Account Profile also provides you with lead recommendations based on your sales preferences in Sales Navigator. This Account Profile information is available to view on the Lead, Contacts, Opportunity, and Account forms in Dynamics 365 for Sales.

With these capabilities, sales professionals can stay informed about their customers, and identify new opportunities to build their sales pipeline.

Core Drivers: The Roadmap to Digital Transformation

Leading digital change requires leaders to have a vision of how to transform their company for a digital world. Digital transformation is not just a trendy buzz word; it is a fundamental business process that everyone needs to adapt and adjust to – now.

For most businesses, the first focus will be the customer. Effectively, to generate new sources of revenue, companies need to reimagine the customer experience along their value chain. As they reinvent how to connect and engage with customers in new ways, an organization will also need to transform how it empowers employees. Empowered employees will help drive optimized operations and processes and lead companies to transform products and services.

Microsoft has identified these four pillars as the core drivers on the roadmap to digital transformation:

Engaging Customers – Build natural, tailored experiences by harnessing data representing a complete view of your customer. Then, draw actionable insights that can deliver personalization at scale and achieve a segment of one.

Empowering Employees – Empower people to achieve more by designing a workplace where every working style can thrive; one that harnesses digital intelligence to improve experiences and enables the flexibility of mobility, while keeping your organization, people, and information secure.

Optimizing Operations – Accelerate the responsiveness of your business, improve service levels, and reduce costs with intelligent processes that anticipate the future and coordinate people and assets more efficiently.

Transforming Products – Differentiate and capture emerging revenue opportunities by harnessing data as a strategic asset. Shift from hindsight to foresight, automate manual processes, deliver personalization to customers and innovate new business models services, products, and experiences.

Bond Consulting Services is an integral component in optimizing the solutions Microsoft offers for full business transformation. We can help you adjust to the fourth industrial revolution by implementing solutions that help get you there. Let us do the work so you don't have to, contact us today to get started.

What's New: Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Financials

Microsoft is constantly adding new features to the Financials application. The Microsoft Dynamics 365 Roadmap details features that are newly available, in development, or previously released. Investing now with this solution allows you to continually benefit from the new features being released regularly. By continually releasing new features and updates, Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Financials makes running your business seamless and efficient.

Direct Transfers

Microsoft has made it easier to create transfer orders. Customers no longer need to use an in-transit location. Instead, they can receive items immediately at the transfer-to location, just by choosing the Direct Transfer check box on the transfer order.

When you transfer directly, you can ensure that you ship the correct amount. You can only change the Qty. to Ship field on transfer order lines. The Qty. to Receive field is locked with the same value as the quantity to ship.

You can easily identify the transfers you made directly, just by looking at the lists of posted transfer shipments and posted transfer receipts.

Interaction Log

Enhancements to the interaction log let you rest assured your quotes and orders were actually sent by email. If the Suite user experience is enabled, you can view the interaction log directly from the order. What’s more, you can add comments about opportunities and interactions.

Power BI Reporting

Gaining impactful business insights is a snap with Dynamics 365 for Financials and Power BI.

Financials provides Business Intelligence in the place and time you need it. With the new Power BI reporting control, you can better leverage your Power BI reports by making them visible from within the most highly-used lists in Financials.

Not only are you able to view Power BI reports you select, but you can also interact and filter the reports by simply selecting records from the associated list page.

Rapid Start Configuration

Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Financials comes with purpose-built assisted setup guides that make it easy to migrate master data, and some transactional data, from finance apps such as QuickBooks.

In some cases, you might want to migrate data from an app that we don’t have a guide for. Don’t worry, we can help you with that as well. You can now use Rapid Start configuration packages to migrate data to Financials from a text-based output file.

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Roadmap is where partners and users can go to find out what is being made generally available and what is in development. The Dynamics 365 Roadmap provides a snapshot of what Microsoft is working on and when you’ll be able to access new updates and features. All dates and features that are in development are preliminary, are based on current expectations, and are subject to change without notice.

Microsoft Dynamics GP vs. QuickBooks

Are you outgrowing your traditional accounting software? For small businesses, traditional accounting software like, QuickBooks, can slow you down in a variety of ways. QuickBooks is a great, entry-level accounting solution, however, as your business grows, QuickBooks will most likely be unable to grow with you. QuickBooks has limited scalability and requires manual processes, resulting in downtime and obstacles for your business instead of paving the way for success. Microsoft Dynamics GP is capable of handling extremely large data sets with millions of records and hundreds of thousands of transactions being processed at the same time by multiple users.

Dynamics GP is a complete mid-market Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution that can be hosted on the cloud or on your own, on-premises server. Trusted by over 50 thousand companies, Dynamics GP is secure and scalable, combining years of innovation and the agility needed to compete in today’s market. Microsoft Dynamics GP is valuable because it allows you to see patterns and predict trends in real time.

People who use Microsoft Dynamics GP work within a role center that is personalized to fit how they like to do their job. Rather than combing through endless data, they see views that are filtered to the context of the tasks that they are working on. This reduces the number of steps it takes to perform daily business processes. Dynamics GP provides hundreds of predefined built-in reports that help you make decisions faster, increasing productivity and efficiency throughout the office.  Ultimately, Microsoft Dynamics GP is quick to implement and easy to use, with the power to support your growth ambition.
